I said I'd have a go at anything at my interview
Blue Peter has been a mainstay of children’s TV in the UK for more than 60 years. Caron Keating became one of the intrepid few chosen to host the programme in 1986.
During her four year stint on the show, Caron, the daughter of broadcaster Gloria Hunniford, presented the series alongside co-stars including Peter Duncan and Yvette Fielding. She took on daredevil challenges including swimming with sharks and aerial acrobatics, standing atop a vintage aeroplane.
In the 1990s, Caron moved on to new adventures in TV, also marrying and becoming a mum of two. After being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997, she battled the disease for seven years. Her family was close by when she died in the arms of her mum.
Today she is remembered through the work of The Caron Keating Foundation, set up by her mum and brothers which provides invaluable support to people with cancer and their families.
Gloria has said: “Caron's positivity was astounding. She always believed she would beat the cancer, even when we were told that she'd be lucky to survive more than 18 months. She lived for seven years after that prognosis… I'm so grateful for the extra time we had.”
