The sad part about happy endings is there’s nothing to write about
Sometimes it's hard to be a woman, Tammy Wynette wrote in her most famous song, Stand By Your Man, one of the most popular and enduring country tunes ever written.
In her own life, Nashville star Tammy experienced many ups and downs in her relationships. She was married five times, with four of these unions ending in divorces or annulments. Perhaps it is significant that her second most famous song is entitled D-I-V-O-R-C-E.
Happily, Tammy’s fifth marriage to George Richey in 1978 (they wed when Tammy was 36), did last until her death. This in itself came much too soon; she was only 55 when she died in her sleep and Nashville mourned country’s undisputed First Lady.
