Everything you can imagine is real
One of the most acclaimed artist of the 20th century, Picasso is ranked amongst the greatest of all time.
Born in Malaga, Spain and prodigiously gifted from a very early age, Picasso became a revolutionary art pioneer, who co-created Cubism. “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child,” he famously said.
“I paint objects as I think them, not as I see them.”
Picasso’s art is now amongst the most coveted in the world. His portrait of Marie-Therese Walter sold for £49.8 million at Sotheby's London in March 2018, the highest price paid in pounds for any painting ever sold before in Europe.
The artist had become very wealthy in his own lifetime from his artwork and had been preparing for a forthcoming exhibition when he died at the villa in France he shared with his second wife, Jacqueline Roque.
Having lived life to the full, the artist, who lived until the age of 91, once famously said: “It takes a long time to become young.”
